There are certain circumstances when we may suggest completely removing a tooth from its place in your smile. This is called a tooth extraction. Dr. Joe Rigg, our caring dentist, will only suggest a tooth extraction in Aberdeen, South Dakota if it is absolutely necessary. There are generally only two reasons we will remove a tooth. First, the tooth has become so decayed or damaged that is rendered useless and poses a threat to your smile. While the tooth may have died, we do not want the infection or damage that killed it to travel to other healthy areas of your smile. The second type of tooth extraction we offer is wisdom teeth removal.
Your wisdom teeth are located at the back of your smile and are the last of your permanent teeth to grow in. However, because your smile is often already full, wisdom teeth can become impacted. This means that they are not able to erupt fully from the gumline, leading to infection and painful abscesses. Impacted wisdom teeth can also grow in sideways, apply pressure to your other teeth, and cause misalignment.

Whenever we remove a tooth, we use great skill and care. To help restore your smile, we also provide multiple tooth replacement options. For more information, please contact us at Joseph Rigg, DDS today.
